WELCOME TO ELLIS & SON
Established in 1943, Commercial vehicle body building, from individual components to repairs to complete builds or rebuilds. We cater for one-offs and fleets of vehicles.
Isaac Ellis finished his apprenticeship as a wheelwright and coach builder and opened his own small workshop in Tudeley, mostly doing work for agricultural vehicles.
His son, Ernie, joins him in Tudeley. They are charged with making gun carriage wheels by the government, after someone saw the Kent Wagon Wheel displayed at the Festival of Britain in 1951.
Ernie purchases a plot of land and initially builds a house for his family, then constructs initial workshop space, finalising all the work in the late 1960s.
Alan, Ernie’s eldest son, joins the business. Neil, Ernie’s youngest son, joins 2 years later in 1982.
After some time spent relocating, we began operating out of our current address in Brenchley.
